SILK BALLS

These balls are often the first feature people notice when they see a lion. Perhaps no other single part of the lion is as indicative of the overall level of workmanship dedicated to creating the lion. Vibrant, stable dyes, densely packed fibers, and perfectly trimmed spheres are the hallmarks of top quality craftsmanship. There are five standard levels of quality that can be assigned to each order of balls. If you’re making or repairing your own lion, we’re pretty confident you want only the best silk balls money can buy. Rest assured that we insist on ordering the finest quality available as a matter of course. Specify up to 6 concentric rings of color. If you feel adventurous you can even order Chinese opera style polka dot balls.

Fluffing Silk Balls
A finely-crafted, colorful silk ball begs to be caressed, but resist the temptation and insist others do the same. The oils from human hands soil the fibers. Should the fibers become crushed or misshapen, here’s a little Chinese opera secret: hold the silk ball over steam and fluff with a fork until the fibers fluff out to a round shape once again. Lower quality balls may never fluff out nicely because of the low fiber count.

Here’s a little Of Course Lion Source secret: don’t store or transport your lion in a tight-fitting bag—unless you want to employ the Chinese opera secret mentioned above.
